Disney Contemporary Resort Opens New 15-Story Tower
Walt Disney World landmark re-imagined with new accommodations, restaurants and public spaces for meetings and conventions
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (August 16, 2009) – A new 15-story tower opened on August 4 at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Containing 295 two-bedroom villas, the tower gives the Contemporary a total of 951 rooms, suites and villas. The expansion also caps off a three-year transformation of the resort, which includes completely redesigned common areas and guest rooms, a new entrance and lobby, and the addition of two new restaurants and a second pool complex.
A Walt Disney World landmark, the Contemporary is arguably one of the most recognizable hotels in the world. Its 115,000 square feet of function space has long made the resort a popular destination for meetings and events.
During the last three years, Disney Imagineers, artisans, architects and engineers have been busy re-creating virtually every aspect of the resort.
"For meetings and conventions, the transformation has created a hotel within a hotel," said George Aguel, senior vice president for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "Guests will still find all the amenities of a first-class resort. But set away from the hustle and bustle, they’ll discover sophisticated meeting facilities, restaurants and lounges, all of which are ideal for business and networking."
It’s difficult to say what is most dramatically different about the new Contemporary Resort. But the transformation is noticeable from the moment Guests arrive. A new entryway is lined with stately palms and lush landscaping, establishing the upscale Florida feel of the resort. A new lobby welcomes Guests, with its cool marble, warm tones and dramatic lines. The lobby blends chic and sophisticated décor with gracious hospitality to create an experience unique to the Contemporary.
That combination of casual elegance is recreated throughout the resort, from its new restaurants – The Wave and Contempo Café – to its luxurious Guest rooms and sparkling new public areas.
