New Nighttime Entertainment Spectacular Debuts At Disney's California Adventure Next Year
Disney’s World of Color will offer dramatic new private-event opportunities for groups meeting at the Disneyland Resort.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (June 5, 2009) – A new nighttime entertainment spectacular premieres next year at Disney’s California Adventure. Disney’s World of Color will be a nightly, 25-minute visual symphony that takes attendees on a magical journey through animation and artistic storytelling.
Created with groups in mind, the show will offer a variety of private viewing locations that can accommodate everything from small executive groups to opening/closing galas of up to 9,000 attendees. Buy-outs will also be available, which will enable event organizers to customize the show with organization logos, event messages and other features.
Disney’s World of Color will use a panorama of spectacular water effects to bring Disney animation to life in an entirely new way. The show’s dramatic visuals include high-definition images projected on a curtain of water that is 40 feet high and stretches longer than a football field. Adding to the experience will be 1,200 fountain nozzles, exciting pyro effects, colorful lighting and never-before-used laser effects. And it’s all set to a moving musical score created exclusively for the show.
Scheduled to be presented nightly, Disney’s World of Color will provide a breathtaking backdrop for receptions, dessert parties and other networking events.
"World of Color marks a milestone in the ongoing expansion and transformation of Disney’s California Adventure," said Robert Donahue, director, resort and park event sales and convention services for the Disneyland Resort. "It’s another example of the unforgettable, immersive experiences that only Disney can create for meetings and incentives."
The title of new show pays homage to the television program "Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color," which first aired in 1954. Like its television namesake, the new show will be an artful blend of classic Disney animation, exciting new visuals and dazzling special effects.
Paradise Bay, the lagoon in the center of the park, provides a stage for the massive show. A tranquil bay during the day, Disney’s technical wizardry will bring Paradise Bay to life each night with dramatic effect.
The promenade surrounding Paradise Bay is also being reconfigured to create plazas and gardens that will serve as private viewing locations. The largest of these spaces can accommodate up to 9,000 attendees and is fronted by a stage which can host concerts and other productions. Show elements from Disney’s World of Color will also be available as backdrops for live performances.
Disney’s World of Color is a milestone in a three-year expansion of Disney’s California Adventure. Disney Imagineers launched the expansion in 2009 and are bringing more of Walt Disney, the company’s founder, into the park. Attendees will be immersed in the hope and optimism of California that attracted Walt to this land of opportunity in the 1920s. Other enhancements to Disney’s California Adventure include extensive landscaping and new retail and dining options that will create an even richer environment and reinforce guests’ connection with Walt.
In addition to Disney’s World of Color, the expansion program includes a new Little Mermaid attraction (opening in 2011), and the addition of the 12-acre Cars Land featuring the world of Radiator Springs and three new attractions (opening 2012).
