Disney Cruise Line Creating More Magic at Castaway Cay
Pixie Dusting Disney's Private Island Will Provide More Fun, Upscale Luxury and Greater Convenience for Guests
CELEBRATION, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2009) Castaway Cay, Disney's private island paradise in The Bahamas, will receive an extra sprinkle of pixie dust in the form of new additions and enhancements. Scheduled for completion summer 2010, they will deliver an even greater guest experience and prepare the island for the 2011 arrival of the new Disney Dream cruise ship.
Disney Cruise Line guests consistently rate the 1,000-acre Castaway Cay as their favorite port of call. It is the ultimate private-island escape for adventure and relaxation, and it adds an unparalleled experience for groups sailing with Disney for incentives or meetings.
"Enhancements and additions planned for Castaway Cay will take this already extraordinary guest experience to the next level," said George Aguel, senior vice president for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "They're also part of the biggest growth phase in Disney Cruise Line history, coinciding with the launch of two new ships, the Disney Dream in 2011 and Disney Fantasy in 2012, and our introduction of sailings to Alaska in 2011."
Enhancements to Castaway Cay include:
New Private Beach Cabanas
Guests can have a little piece of paradise all to themselves at one of 20 new private cabanas. These premium rental cabanas will provide the privacy and luxury of a deluxe beach retreat.
Adding a new level of sophistication to the island lifestyle, cabanas will be located at the adults-only Serenity Bay and the family beach. Cabana Interiors will offer dining areas, refrigerators and lockable storage units, while adjoining patios will provide extra comfort with freshwater showers and lounge chairs.
Cabana amenities will include non-alcoholic beverages, suntan lotion and towels. A variety of a-la-carte services and packages will be offered, including special food and beverage options. Guests will also have an option to add the personalized service of a cabana host.
New Massage Cabanas
For additional pampering, three new massage cabanas are being added to the adults-only Serenity Bay. This will bring the total number of treatment cabanas on the island to eight and increase guest options for therapeutic massages and couples massages. Beautiful ocean views come standard.
New Water Feature and Water Play Areas
Guests will be able to slide, splash and plunge at a new water feature called Pelican Plunge. The 2,400-square-foot floating platform, located within swimming distance of shore, celebrates the island's native pelicans. The platform will feature two corkscrew water slides that take guests on a twisting ride that ends with a splash into the lagoon. Water cannons and other soaking options will also be plentiful on Pelican Plunge.
Back on land, a brand-new freshwater play area called "Spring-a-Leak" will help guests cool off, while immersing them in what appears to be remnants of a beach house that's been ravaged by a great tropical storm.Other Enhancements and Additions
The popular Castaway Ray's Stingray Adventure, where guests can swim and interact with stingrays, will move to a larger area in Castaway Cay lagoon.
Teens will enjoy Hide Out, an all-new secluded area created just for them. It will be a great place to hang out with sun, shade and music.
